Bitter herbal tincture. In the production of Chinar bitters, 13 different spices and herbs are used. What exactly is a trade secret. Among herbal ingredients, edible thistle, artichoke, rhubarb, gentian, bitter and sweet orange can be recognized.
The fortress of the classic “Chinar” is 16.5 degrees. In one of its types, the alcohol content reaches 35%. In this drink, notes of dried fruits and caramel are added to herbal motifs.
History of occurrence. The drink is young, it was born in the middle
twentieth century, in 1952. It was allegedly made popular by Italian television, launching the slogan “Chinar – against stress.” The most famous Italian actors were involved in the promotion of the brand, one of them, Ernesto Chalindri, known as the Italian “agent 007”, according to the plot, participated in critical trials and coped with them brilliantly thanks to the incredible properties of the new alcohol.
The patent for the invention of the drink is reportedly owned by Angelo Dalle Molle, a businessman from Venice and a philanthropist. He started the production of “Chinar” with the brothers Amedeo and Mario. Artichoke liqueur has become popular in Brazil and Switzerland, which is confirmed by sales figures in these countries.
Color “Chinar” – brown. The consistency is thick. The drink is consumed as an aperitif and digestif, adding ice. Ideal with soda, tonic water and orange juice. But the French drink it with beer. However, there are lovers of mixing “Chinar” with white wine or champagne. A strong version of “Chinar” can be added to coffee.
But what about the slogan “Chinar – against stress”? A sophisticated publicity stunt? Not really. Considering that Chinar is based on an artichoke, and they were treated in ancient Rome for jaundice, scurvy, rheumatism and many diseases of the digestive system, then the slogan does not deceive. This unique vegetable successfully treated diseases among the ancient Romans, and today it also successfully fights stress.
